Boone Lake - Gill Netting 2009

Sampling Date: February 9, 2009
Species collected in survey (6 net nights):

Striped bass - 25
Hybrid striped bass - 17

The 17 hybrid striped bass and 25 striped bass collected ranged from 14 to 33-inches in length. Over 70% of the hybrid striped bass were between 22 to 26-inches indicating a high quality fishery. Not very many < 20-inch hybrid striped bass were collected. However, smaller sized hybrid striped bass and striped bass are difficult to collect no matter what type of sampling method is used.

A good sample of <20-inch striped bass were collected indicating good survival of the 2007 and 2008 stocked fingerlings. There were also good numbers of striped bass in the 22 to 25-inch range. Relative weights of both striped bass and hybrid striped bass were within the normal range for each species. Boone's "Morone" population appears to be healthy and stable.
