Boone Lake - Gill Netting 2013
Sampling Date: February 22, 2013
Species collected in survey (5 net nights):
Striped bass - 14
Hybrid striped bass - 26
Five, 300-foot gill nets were set on Boone Reservoir on February 22, 2013 to sample striped bass and hybrid striped bass. The TWRA collected 26 hybrid striped bass and 14 striped bass, ranging from 18 to 39-inches in length. These numbers are lower than last year, but this is probably due to the drastic water level fluctuations of the reservoir this winter.
All of the hybrids and striped bass collected were over 18-inches in length. In fact, all of the striped bass were greater than 24-inches in length. This should mean there will be plenty of keeper size fish for anglers in 2013.
Relative weights of both striped bass and hybrids were within the normal range for each species. The fishery appears to be healthy and stable.
