Fort Loudoun Electrofishing 2008

Sampling date: April 14 - 17, 2008
Species collected in survey (12 runs, 3.0 hrs total effort):

Black Crappie = 69
Largemouth Bass = 486
Smallmouth Bass = 45
White Crappie = 62

An exceptional number of largemouth bass were collected in the 2008 electrofishing sample. The average length and weight of largemouth collected were 11.4-inches and 1.0-pounds, respectively.

Smallmouth bass can be difficult to collect using our standardized daytime sampling procedures, but we have collected increased numbers of them during the past three years. Although only two of the smallmouth were greater than the 18-inch minimum length limit, the improved catch rates suggests the relatively new regulation may be helping increase their density.

Both white and black crappie have become more numerous throughout the reservoir and anglers have been reporting very good catches during the past several years.
